Cobb GreenSpeed INFO

J-PIPE INFORMATION

  • p0420 CEL:  Every j-pipe will trigger the CEL whether it's a GESI or non-GESI cat.  The CEL does NOT alter the performance of the car.  You can leave the CEL on or reset the ECU every time it pops up.  I recommend just leaving the CEL on since the car will drive exactly the same if it is on or not.
  • Cat Location:  Very front of j-pipe, same exact location as the OEM unit.  Cats needs to be in-between the front and rear O2 sensors for the ECU logic to have any chance of working correctly.  The ECU is measuring and comparing the pre-cat Air-Fuel-Ratio (AFR) to the post-cat AFR.
  • Recommendation:  Any j-pipe with a GESI Gen2 cat located at the front of the j-pipe.
  • Does J-Pipe Brand Matter:  No.  All manufacturers are using the same exact GESI Gen2 Cat.
  • 02 Sensor Spacers:  All cars I've tested with a spacer still threw a p0420 CEL.

FLEX FUEL INFORMATION

  • No more Flex Fuel:  Flex fuel functionality has been removed from the software so flex fuel tuning is no longer an option.
  • Flex fuel kits must be removed:  If you have a pre-Greenspeed flex fuel toon and you want to add new parts and get a re-toon, the flex fuel kit will need to be removed.
  • DT Flex Fuel Kits:  I will not tune the "Greenspeed Compliant" kit that plugs into the intake air temp sensor.
  • Dual Mapping:  Ethanol can still be run.  We just go back to doing 2 separate maps exactly how it was done for years before Cobb implemented the flex fuel functionality.  You will simply have 1 pump gas map and 1 e60 map on the AP and have to flash the appropriate map for the fuel you're currently running.  Dual mapping is perfectly safe and it's how everyone was tuned for years before flex fuel existed.
  • AP Ethanol Content:  You can no longer monitor the ethanol content on the AP gauge screen.
  • Ethanol Gauge:  I do NOT require you to buy an ethanol gauge to get an e60 tune from me, but if you want to monitor the ethanol content there are several different kits available.
  • Innovate MTX-D ethanol sensor & fuel temp with gauge is $268.
  • Zeitronix ECA-2 ethanol sensor with gauge is $350 .
  • An ethanol gauge is perfect for checking the final ethanol mixture, but it won't help you know how much e85 to put in your tank.  You have to fill the gas tank all the way full with e85 and pump gas, then drive for 5-10 minutes before the ethanol actually makes it up to the engine and sensor and the ethanol content starts rising on the gauge.  Once the ethanol mixture stabilizes and you see it's off, you can't do anything about it since the gas tank is full.
  • Vial testers - In my personal experience the vials are not very accurate and commonly read 5-10% high.  The content at my stations is always 80-82%, but the vials told me it was 88-92%.  So I don't trust them.  If the vial is giving you the incorrect ethanol %, then it's useless and just messing up your calculation.  Plus it sucks trying to pour e85 into a little vial at the gas station.  You're gonna spill it all over yourself and smell like e85 all day.
  • How to maintain the proper ethanol mixture - It is very simple to maintain a final ethanol content between e55-e65.  Simply drive until the empty light comes on, pump 12 gallons of e85 and fill the rest with pump gas.  Rinse n repeat.  I have been using e85 for 10+ years and I have never seen the ethanol content wildly vary.
  • Summer ethanol % vs winter ethanol % - The ethanol content should be e83 in all states during the summer.  In states where it gets below freezing in the winter, the ethanol content will be lowered to e70.  This possible drop in ethanol content is the main reason I instruct you to use 12 gallons of e85, where most other tuners will tell you to use 10 gallons.  Using 12 gallons of e85 keeps your ethanol content centered around e60 even if the ethanol content at the pump drops.
  • 12 gallons of e85 + 3.9 gallons of pump gas = e67
  • 12 gallons of e70 + 3.9 gallons of pump gas = e55
  • 10 gallons of e85 + 3.9 gallons of pump gas = e60
  • 10 gallons of e70 + 3.9 gallons of pump gas = e48

TGV/EGR INFORMATION

  • No more TGV deletes.  The TGV functionality has been removed from the software so TGV deletes are no longer an option.  I will not tune a car with TGV deletes.
  • No more EGR deletes.  The EGR functionality has been removed from the software so EGR deletes are no longer an option.  I will not tune a car with EGR deletes.
  • If you have a pre-Greenspeed toon with TGV/EGR deletes and you want to add new parts and get a re-toon, the OEM TGV/EGR will need to be installed.

ECUTEK

  • I've seen many folks in FB groups saying they are switching to Ecutek to maintain flex fuel, but Ecutek does not have flex fuel functionality either, even though it's listed on their website as a feature.
  • Ecutek has on the fly map switching.  This means you can switch maps via the steering wheel controls.  So you would still have 2 separate maps for pump gas and e60, you would just be able to tap a couple buttons on the steering wheel to switch between them instantly, whereas with the AP you have to turn the car off and do a full flash.  So Ecutek is marginally easier to switch maps, but it's definitely not flex fuel.
  • IMO, there is no point in spending money to switch to Ecutek right now.
